Learn the TRUTH About Weight Loss Surgery

Do we need chewables?

Okay, so I’m over three years post-op, and I’ve struggled with whether or not I truly needed chewable vitamins all this time.  It made sense to my  mind, that if I chewed them, they would be broken down and more readily absorbed.  Right?  I’ve heard the stories of whole pills being taken (by normal, non-bypass folks) and them not being digested by passing through the digestive system still intact.  Well, if that were true for “normies”, then it would be especially true for us bypassers.  So all this time, I’ve been going and operating under this theory that chewable is better.  I’m normally an investigating it myself kinda gal, I prefer to think for myself and quite often “think outside the box”; so don’t ask me why I hadn’t thought of this until this morning….. I decided to do an experiment.  :)

I took one of my Calcium Citrate pills and placed it in some water in a glass and wanted to see how long it would take for this pill to dissolve.  To my amazement, it took just under two minutes for the calcium pill to completely dissolve in just plain tap water.  Now I know that things move pretty quickly through my new system, but I know that it takes longer than two minutes and that there are some digestive juices and liquids a bit harsher than just water along the way, so I’m now confident that I can take at least my calcium in regular whole pill form and be okay.  ;)

Now to try my other pills to see what those results are.  I’ll let ya know.

New WLS blog

Hello! I decided to setup a separate blog to log my weight loss surgery (WLS) journey and keep it separate from my personal blog. There’s so much more to WLS and the post-op life, and now, three years post-op, I’m finding I’m developing some issues that having it’s own blog would be the best way to go.

So stay tuned as I start migrating posts from my personal blog to this one (okay, I’ve migrated my ObesityHelp profile journal over to here and updated the timestamps on those posts so they are in proper date order) regarding my WLS journey to-date and begin new entries on current issues.

A slight gain & busy life

I can’t believe I haven’t updated since last November. I have been very busy! I’m doing well. I think I have put on a few pounds, 5 or so; but I don’t want to gain any more. I know Dr. R. said that would happen, but I didn’t want it to happen to me! I can see how easily a post-op could gain weight! I can eat pretty much anything, still smaller portions that before surgery, but more volume that I could eat immediately post-op. So I have to be careful and make sure I’m making good choices. I really need to post an updated picture. I don’t really look any different than the last one I posted, so not sure what benefit it would be. LOL Just something new to look at for those who care to. ;-)

I don’t have much time these days for posting on the July 2004 or Missouri boards. I miss everyone, but life goes on I guess. The surgery gave me back my life and I’m out living it! :-D
